Grand Opening of John Adams Unbound; Hand Book Binding Demonstration

The John Adams Unbound exhibit scheduled to appear on campus March 8- April 15. The University Library will host the exhibit, which will be in the foyer of Hoag Hall. A grand opening reception will be held from 5:30-7:00 on March 12th. Refreshments will be served.

Karen Pardue, CSU-Pueblo Librarian, will be giving a demonstration of hand book binding during the opening event. Come see how books were bound in John Adams’ time.

John Adams Unbound explores Adams’ personal library – a collection of 3,500 books willed by Adams to the people of Massachusetts and deposited in the Boston Public Library in 1894. Through photo-reproductions of these annotated volumes, viewers will witness one of our founding fathers wrestling with intellectual and political ideas at each stage in his life. John Adams Unbound has been organized by the Boston Public Library and the American Library Association Public Programs Office. This traveling exhibition has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Going Up! Or what to do when you can’t get to the books

As I hope all of our patrons know by now, we have had to put the majority of our print collection in storage for the duration of the Library’s renovation project. Our wonderful Circulation staff and student workers venture into the closed wing multiple times a day to pull your requests from the shelves and bring them to the Underground.

Last week, however, access to the building was completely blocked and we had to get creative. With some help from the construction crew, we were able to find a way to get to the books.
Who knew fullfilling patron requests would require heavy equipment and a hard hat?

All photos taken by Matt Decesaro, Circulation

Need a book? Go here to place a request and we will do whatever it takes to make sure you have what you need. Even if it means wearing a hard hat.
